Partnership for Safety and Justice works with the Oregon Legislature as one avenue toward criminal justice reform. Since 1999, our staff and members have created a well worn path to Salem to educate state legislators and to bring about change.

After what feels like far more than five months, the legislative session has closed. PSJ won some important victories but also had some disappointments this session. This is a quick update.

After much work done by PSJ staff and its members, House Bill 2707 passed and was signed into law by the governor. Juvenile detention is now the default place to hold youth charged as adults pre-trial, rather than county jails.

PSJ, crime victims and victim advocates gathered at the state capitol to urge legislators to reign in ever-increasing prison spending and invest those savings in smarter approaches to public safety, including programs and services that protect crime victims and assist them in rebuilding their lives.
