OR: No Charges Filed in Prisoner Death

No charges were filed in the death of David Schmidt who died on December 3 after a struggle with guards at Oregon State Penitentiary. The state medical examiner reported that the cause of death was “restraint asphyxia due to exhaustion and chest compression.” The Marion County District Attorney stated in January that it would not press charges against the guards.
