April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a time when advocates in communities across Oregon – and across the country – highlight the issues around sexual assault and the needs of survivors. The Oregon Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence and the Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Task Force provide great resources to help organize SAAM events.
The Oregon Domestic and Sexual Violence Services Fund (ODSVS) is the only source of general fund money that supports domestic and sexual violence programs throughout Oregon. Already underfunded at $4.5 million, ODSVS faces a 30% cut in the 2009-2011 budget. SAAM is a great time for advocates to highlight the need to maintain ODSVS at $4.5 million.
PSJ is working closely with allied professionals to organize events that bring attention to the ODSVS crisis. We will keep you posted on ways you can help out. If you have any ideas about ways you would like to help bring attention to ODSVS, please contact Kerry Naughton .
