Voter Registration
Lots of people aren’t registered to vote for one reason or another. They might not know that they can register despite any past felony convictions. They might not believe that their vote will make a difference. They might not know how to register or how to vote and might not want to ask for help. The truth is, any American citizen that lives in Oregon and is not incarcerated on Election Day can vote! Click here for more information about how to register people to vote.
Voter Registration
Why register people to vote? Well, the long and the short of it is that if people who believe in our cause and want to help us defeat this ballot measure are not registered to vote, they can’t vote our way in November. We know that every vote counts, but here are some facts to help people who aren’t so sure of that get the picture:
State elections are often decided by really close margins. Some state and local elections are routinely decided by a margin of only several hundred votes.
Your vote is your voice!
- Your vote is a way to make sure that your opinion, values, and beliefs are taken into account. By voting you are telling the state how you feel about certain issues, and your feelings are going to count
- Voting is an easy way to affect some serious change in your community. Votes are going to make the decision about everything on the ballot whether or not your vote is one of them. Why not ensure that your voice is out there?
Who can register to vote?
In Oregon, if you are a citizen of the US who is at least 17 years old, and you live in Oregon, you can register as an Oregon voter
This includes:
- people who have committed felonies in the past
- people who are on probation
- people who are in COUNTY jail
- people who don’t speak English
- people without an Oregon driver’s license
- people who live on the streets (as long as you have a mailing address)
- people who are only 17! (you won’t get a ballot until you are 18)
Registering to vote:
- Won’t get you jury duty any more than paying income taxes or having a drivers license will
- Will get your ballot sent to your mailing address
- Won’t put you at risk for identity theft
- Will give you a great opportunity to use your voice
