Brawl prompts lockdown at state penitentiary in Salem

A brawl last night between nearly a dozen inmates prompted a lockdown last night at Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem.

Prison operations are on a modified schedule today while troopers from the Oregon State Police investigate the 6 p.m. "multiple inmate fight" in the A-unit public area.

Neither inmates nor staff required medical treatment but several received first aid on site, said penitentiary spokesman Michael Yoder.
