As of November 23rd, Harold Clarke is no longer head of Washington’s Department of Corrections. He will move on to Massachusetts to direct that state’s prison system.
Mr. Clarke came to Washington in 2005 after heading Nebraska’s prison system. He presided over a major expansion of Washington’s prisons and had difficult relationships with some staff. Citing a lack of communication about changes in community supervision programs, union employees threatened a no confidence vote against him.
