PSJ Members Send a Strong Message to Legislators: Don’t Cut Survivor Services
July 1, 2009
On Tuesday May 19th, the day after the Co-Chairs released their budget, PSJ and ally members of the Oregon Alliance to End Violence Against Women delivered over 4,000 postcards in support of the Oregon Domestic and Sexual Violence Services Fund (ODSVS) to key leaders of the Ways and Means Committee. More than 1/3rd of these postcards were collected from PSJ members! Many people wrote powerful messages to the legislators, including:
- We can’t afford cuts to ODSVS. Domestic violence won’t go away and is a root cause of crime
- It’s life and death. Thanks for your support.
- Thank you for your hard work. I understand you have to make hard budget decisions, but these funds save lives. I urge you to continue supporting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. You are OUR voice for the voiceless.
- This needs attention. Thank you for looking into this matter. Because it DOES matter.
- I urge you to continue to support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. I have family members that were victims of sexual assault/violence. Without these programs there are many who would not get much needed help. Oregon needs to support services that help survivors rebuild their lives. This is something people can not do on their own.
Thank you for your participation in the Postcard Campaign! There is still a lot of work to be done to protect funding for survivor services, but this brings us one step closer.
