PSJ Member Participates in National Youth Justice Meeting
July 7, 2009
Partnership for Safety and Justice long time member and volunteer, Sheila Montgomery, attended the National Juvenile Justice Network (NJJN) Annual Forum in Washington, DC July 23 – 36.
NJJN supports one juvenile justice advocate from each state in the country to come and learn and share innovations and information at their annual forum. Sheila attended for PSJ this year, encouraging NJJN to include more people who have been directly impacted by the juvenile justice system, particularly families and youth.
In addition to attending numerous conference sessions, Sheila met with three members of Oregon’s Congressional Delegation, Congressman Earl Blumenauer and Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden, to tell them about PSJ’s work to change the way youth are tired as adults.
NJJN enhances the ability of statewide juvenile justice coalitions to advocate for fair, equitable and developmentally appropriate adjudication and treatment for all youth and families involved in the juvenile justice system.
