Action: Contact Your Legislators

Yesterday you received an Action Alert message we sent to everyone on our Action Alert network regarding HB 2335-A, an omnibus criminal justice bill that includes a number of smart and important reforms.
 
We are sending this special request to you because the vote of your state legislators are especially important if this bill is going to pass. We have identified a number of legislators whose vote will particularly help us reach the super majority support needed to pass the bill. This makes your participation in our action request especially important.
 
While this bill contains the parole bill we have been fighting, it has now been “stuffed” with amendments that enact a number of smart criminal justice reforms, including:

• Delaying implementation of Measure 57 for 2½ years
• Increased earned time eligibility for some non-M11 people from 20% to 30%
• Earned time for people on probation, and
• Reduction of re-incarceration for technical probation violations.

We see this bill as a real attempt by the legislature to reduce the skyrocketing growth of Oregon’s prison system. Passage would be a major victory!

The bill needs a two-thirds super majority to pass, so bi-partisan support is crucial. Your voice can be especially strong in calling for passage of this important legislation.
