Alert: Oregon Budget Update

Oregon Budget Update
We want to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the Ways and Means budget hearings over the past week. The hearings wrapped up last Friday in Eugene, and PSJ members took our message to legislators in spoken and written testimony to six different hearings around the state.

In Ashland, Ontario, Bend, Portland, Salem, and Eugene, PSJ members let the Ways and Means Committee know that in our current budget crisis, Oregon can save money by investing in treatment, making sensible sentencing reform, and stopping the construction of the next prison in Junction City. Members spoke out about the need to stop the cuts to the Oregon Domestic and Sexual Violence Services Fund (ODSVS Fund). You can take action below to save the ODSVS Fund.

Oregonians care about their state and their neighbors, and they came to these meetings by the hundreds. We’re grateful to all of our members who took the time to prepare and submit their testimony. Thank you!

But the budget fight isn’t over yet  -  there’s still more you can do…
We need you to collect postcards to stop cuts to the ODSVS Fund. You can print out postcards and find more information here. We’ll also mail postcards to you. Email Kerry if you need postcards. The deadline for sending your postcards to the Ways and Means Committee is May 13.

You’ll remember that during the last legislative session, we organized for the first increase in money for ODSVS Fund, the fund that pays for life saving services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Now, the legislature wants to cut money allocated to the fund. Fill out your postcard today to ask legislators not to cut the ODSVS Fund.

Thank you for all you do as a member of the Action Alert Network!
