Action: Two Easy Ways to Save Lives
Two Easy Ways You Can Help Save Lives
Our legislative priorities are coming up in full force right now and we need your help! There are two upcoming opportunities for you to help save funding for domestic and sexual violence programs in easy – and fun – ways. Legislators need to hear that people want funding to go to community-based programs that work!
Here’s how you can get involved:
1. Rally the Capitol Steps on Wed, April 29th at Noon!
Join PSJ and other members of the Alliance to End Violence Against Women on Wed, April 29th at noon as we unveil the Domestic and Sexual Violence Forecast for the 2009-2011 biennium. Unfortunately, if the Oregon Domestic and Sexual Violence Services Fund (ODSVS) is cut, the forecast will be gloomy (we’re encouraging everyone to bring a black umbrella to the rally to help make an impressive visual statement). Join us to support our allies and legislators as they talk about our need for stable services for survivors. Please RSVP to Kerry Naughton at kerry@safetyandjustice.org by Monday, April 27th if you are able to attend.
2. Participate in the Postcard Campaign by May 13th!
In 2007, PSJ members worked hard to increase ODSVS. We need to work just as hard now to maintain that funding. ODSVS is already severely underfunded and any cuts will mean that even fewer people will be able to become safe or rebuild their lives.
The 2007 ODSVS Postcard Campaign delivered over 2,200 postcards from 87 cities in Oregon, and we’re working hard to bring in even more postcards this year. We need your help because your voice matters! All you need to do is fill in your name and address and, if you want to, a brief message about survivor services. You can contact me at kerry-at-safetyandjustice.org and I will send you postcards through the mail. Taking part in the Postcard Campaign is easy and quick. And it could save someone’s life.
Thank you for your work to help save services and save lives!
