New Resource – How to Advocate for an Inmate with Mental or Emotional Needs
Over 6,700 people in Oregon’s prisons have a diagnosed mental illness. Thanks to the research and support of PSJ member Karen James, Partnership for Safety and Justice has a new tool to assist families and friends advocating for many of these prisoners.
How to Advocate for an Inmate with Mental or Emotional Needs can help answer your questions about how to navigate the Department of Correction’s mental health system. The brochure also lists definitions of terms used by the Department of Corrections and contact information for organizations that can provide additional support and information to people advocating with someone with a mental illness.
Links to the brochure are below. Please note that it is a legal-sized document (8.5"x14") and you will need to print accordingly. Get in touch with Partnership for Safety and Justice if you have any questions.
