Commission on Public Safety Met in Portland
November 16, 2011
The Commission Came to Portland
Governor Kitzhaber’s Commission on Public Safety is met in Portland for the first time on November 21. This Commission, which is looking at sentencing reform in an effort to improve public safety, is chaired by Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul De Muniz. De Muniz has said, “It's not enough to be tough. We can make ourselves more safe by being smart in sentencing." PSJ agrees!
Topics of discussion included “Evidence Based Sentencing and Performance Incentive Funding”, “Yamhill County Evidence Based Decision Making Initiative”, “Oregon’s Public Safety Checklist Risk Tool”, and “Evidence Based Practices – The Future of Community Corrections in Oregon.”
If you are interested in the proceedings but couldn't make the meeting, it is available as an MP3 or video link.
The next and final meeting will be held on December 2 in Salem at the State Capitol in Hearing Room A. We will publish more information about that meeting as it becomes available.
